The Penang State Government finds that talented youths in Penang are seeking a platform to showcase their talents. Therefore, the Merdeka Talent Show will be organised by the Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC) for the fourth time to develop more talented youth in the creative industry and as an encouragement for Penang’s talents to pursue their interest.

Through this competition, Merdeka Talent Show 2024 hopes to unearth more talented youths. PYDC, through the “Youth With Rhythm” initiative, continues its commitment to provide opportunities for local talents in Penang. The “Youth With Rhythm” platform has provided many golden opportunities for young talents since it was launched in 2022, including an invitation to perform for the Penang State Government’s events and dinners attended by VVIPS.

Merdeka Talent Show is open to all types of show from singing, dancing, playing musical instruments, poetry recitation, magic, etc. Participants are encouraged to showcase their best performance via video recording upon registration.

Terms & Conditions

  1. This competition is only open to Penang residents or youth who are studying/working in Penang (supporting documents are needed).
  2. Participants are required to submit their performance video for a duration not more than 3 minutes by uploading the video to Google Drive and sharing the public link in the Registration Form during registration. Any performance beyond 3 minutes will not be evaluated.
  3. Participants are required to submit videos between 1 September to15 October 2023 (11.59 pm). Late submissions will be automatically disqualified.
  4. All video submissions must be original.
  5. Maximum 5 participants for each performance and each participant is allowed to perform as solo and in a group performance, whereas each participant is only allowed to participate in one group performance.
  6. Participants can showcase any kind of performing arts for the competition and is not necessary to be in MERDEKA theme.
  7. The Champion and 1st Runner up from Merdeka Talent Show 2021 and 2022 are not qualified to participate.
  8. The organiser reserves the right to disqualify any work which contains elements that are perceived as derogatory by the organiser, including but not limited to, profanity, pornography, defamatory language, negative sentiment towards any parties, and other contents that can affect the organiser’s reputation.
  9. The organiser reserves the right to utilise and publish the media materials, including but not limited to, pictures, videos, and audios, obtained from the programme for the organiser’s use, including but not limited to, for publicity, advertisement, and organizational purposes.
  10. All the information provided to the organiser in the application must be accurate and truthful. The provision of incorrect information will result in disqualification.
  11. The decision of the judges is final, and all appeals will not be entertained.
  12. The organiser reserves the right to make amendments to its rules and regulations without prior notice.
  13. The video should be ended with the emblem of Penang state, logos of PYDC, Penang2030, LovePENANG, Youth for Future, and Youth with Rhythm. The logos can be downloaded from the link here: 

Additional Information

  1. Registration is free for all categories.
  2. Participants are encouraged to post their videos on Facebook, IG, TikTok, or any type of social media and tag PYDC (Facebook page @pydc, Instagram @pydc.my, TikTok @pydc.my) & hashtag #MerdekaTalentshow2023 #PYDC #youthwithrhythm.
  3. The award ceremony will be held physically (The venue will be notified in due course).
  4. Participants are required to notify the organiser as soon as their contact information changes. The participants will take full responsibility in the case of not being contactable by the organiser.
